The Global Citizen Project

The Global Citizen Project

The paramount goal of the Global Citizen Project is to connect American school children with their counterparts in the developing world.

Our children will learn that many things they accept as “universals” — such as running water at home and electric lights at school, are not. In many cases, they will see how happy children can be even without material abundance.

The most unique facet of the GCP is the taped video sessions that will connect children with their counterparts in places where Global Roots has projects. Each child will be assigned to a friend in one of the following places: Gaza, Afghanistan, Mtito Andei (Kenya), the Maasai Mara (Kenya) and, eventually, Cambodia.

Foreign children will revel in having American friends who care for them. If we are given space for a greenhouse in Portland I would like each Portland friend to take care of a plant in the name of their foreign friend. The same will be done by the foreign children in one of our Children’s Gardens around the world.
