Clothing and Children’s Garden Initiative in Baharak
In 2011, Global Roots launched a children’s garden in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, near the Light of Pamir children’s home. This initiative provided a safe space for local children to play and learn about nutrition while also supporting the orphanage’s sustainability by producing food for onsite use.

Working closely with our local partner, Janagha Jaheed, we secured land for the garden within walking distance of the home. To ensure its security, we planned to install a video camera, managed by a security guard who would also serve as the garden’s caretaker.

Another milestone was the successful shipment of children’s clothing and books to Kabul, made possible through the Denton Program. The humanitarian aid, collected by Valley Catholic students who were inspired by the needs in Northern Afghanistan, was scheduled to be transported by the U.S. Air Force to Badakhshan in July 2011.

As part of our ongoing commitment, Global Roots continued fundraising efforts to provide essential support for the Light of Pamir children’s home, ensuring its long-term sustainability and the well-being of the children it serves.
